New guidelines clarify how to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke

New guidelines clarify how to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke...in patients who've already had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).

Antiplatelet drugs. Recommend using aspirin 80-325 mg/day...Plavix (clopidogrel)...OR Aggrenox (dipyridamole/aspirin).

Don't recommend COMBINING Plavix and aspirin solely to prevent stroke. The combo isn't more effective and increases bleeding risk.
