new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemia

The Canadian Cardiovascular Society now has new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemia.

They now recommend more vigorous lipid lowering for HIGH-risk patients...and NOT starting therapy as soon for LOW-risk patients.

Screening should be done every 1 to 3 yrs for men 40 and over and women who are 50 and older or postmenopausal. Recommend screening pts at any age with risk factors...diabetes, smoking, hypertension, etc.
